So far, 13 teams have mathematically secured qualification for the round of 16. These are Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland, Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Morocco, the USA, Germany, France, Norway, Argentina and Colombia.
Projections suggest that seven teams are certain to qualify. Only an unbelievable scenario would see them eliminated.
These teams are England, Japan, the Netherlands, Egypt, Portugal, Spain and Ghana. We remind you that in total there are 32 teams that advance, while 16 are ultimately eliminated.
So far, the surprise was the elimination of Turkey. The rest of the disqualified are Qatar, Haiti, Tunisia, Jordan, Panama and the Czech Republic.

How third-place qualification works
In the new tournament format, the top 2 teams from each group and the 8 best third-place teams advance to the round of 16. The ranking of the best third-place teams is based on points, goal difference, goals scored, fair play (sportsmanlike conduct) and FIFA rankings. According to current developments, 5 points are considered sufficient for qualification in most groups.
Situation in groups
Group A
Mexico qualified as group winners with a clean record and will advance to the round of 16. South Africa secured second place with 4 points and also advance. South Korea remain in third place with 3 points and await further results to see if they qualify as one of the best third-place teams. The Czech Republic has been eliminated from the tournament.
Group B
Switzerland has won the group and has secured passage to the 1/16 final stage. Canada is in second place and also follows after the victory over South Africa in the last matches. Group C
