So far, 13 teams have mathematically secured qualification for the round of 16. These are Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland, Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Morocco, the USA, Germany, France, Norway, Argentina and Colombia.
Projections suggest that seven teams are certain to qualify. Only an unbelievable scenario would see them eliminated.
These teams are England, Japan, the Netherlands, Egypt, Portugal, Spain and Ghana. We remind you that in total there are 32 teams that advance, while 16 are ultimately eliminated.
So far, the surprise was the elimination of Turkey. The rest of the disqualified are Qatar, Haiti, Tunisia, Jordan, Panama and the Czech Republic.
Teams qualified so far for the 1/16 finals:
Argentina, France, Germany, Mexico, USA, Norway, Colombia, Canada, Switzerland, Brazil, Morocco, South Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Several other teams, including the Netherlands, Portugal and Japan, are very close to qualifying and are expected to be confirmed in the final matches (third round) of the group stage.

Haiti, Jordan, Tunisia, Turkey, Panama, Qatar, Czech Republic.
How third-place qualification works
In the new tournament format, the top 2 teams from each group and the 8 best third-place teams advance to the round of 16. The ranking of the best third-place teams is based on points, goal difference, goals scored, fair play (sportsmanlike conduct) and FIFA rankings. According to current developments, 5 points are considered sufficient for qualification in most groups.
Situation in groups
Group A
Mexico qualified as group winners with a clean record and will advance to the round of 16. South Africa secured second place with 4 points and also advance. South Korea remain in third place with 3 points and await further results to see if they qualify as one of the best third-place teams. The Czech Republic has been eliminated from the tournament.
Group B
Switzerland has won the group and has secured passage to the 1/16 final stage. Canada is in second place and also follows after the victory over South Africa in the last matches. Bosnia and Herzegovina, with 4 points, is in a very favorable position and has secured qualification as one of the best third-place teams. Qatar has been eliminated.
Group C
Brazil have secured first place in their group and advance to the next round, where they will face one of the teams that qualified as second. Morocco have also qualified and are advancing. Scotland remain in the hunt for third place, while Haiti have been eliminated.
Group D
The USA has secured first place in the group and advances. Australia is in a good position to qualify and could secure second place with a positive result. Paraguay is still in the race for third place, while Turkey has been eliminated.
Group E
Germany has won the group and qualified for the 1/16 finals. Ivory Coast is very close to qualifying, while Ecuador and Curaçao remain in the race for the remaining places and a possible place as the best third.
Group F
The Netherlands and Japan are very close to qualifying, with the final matches determining the final standings. Sweden still has a chance of qualifying as third place. Tunisia has been eliminated.
Group G
Egypt and Iran are in strong competition for the top two spots in the group, while Belgium also has a strong chance of qualifying. New Zealand are in danger of elimination and need a maximum result in their final match.
Group H
Spain and Uruguay are in very good positions to qualify. Cape Verde is still in the running for third place, while Saudi Arabia needs a win to keep their hopes alive.
Group I
France and Norway have already qualified for the round of 16. Senegal and Iraq are in the running for a place as one of the best third-place teams and will also depend on the results of the other groups.
Group J
Argentina has secured first place in the group and has qualified. Austria and Algeria are in direct competition for second and third place, with everything still open for qualification.
Group K
Colombia have secured qualification and are top of the group. Portugal are very close to progressing, while Congo and Uzbekistan remain in a tough race for the remaining places.
Group L
England and Ghana are both very close to qualifying for the last 16. Croatia is still in the running for a place as the third best, while Panama has been eliminated.
