This is what is happening with one of the most beautiful stories of Albanian, but also European sports. Lara Colturi has now officially requested to leave Albania, to return to her country of origin, Italy.
Arriving about 4 years ago as a minor who had a famous mother and Olympic champion, Daniela Ceccarelli, but in this almost 4-year journey, only she and the Albanian Ski Federation thought they would catch this jackpot, that of the greatest talent in the world of alpine skiing for which today the expectations are maximum from the entire professional world of this sport and today it is Daniela, the mother of Lara Colturi.
But with the increase in level, 3 podiums in this edition's World Cup as an 18-year-old, Lara Colturi ranked 7th in this edition's World Cup, giving strong signals to her birthplace and origin, as the big "azurr" names, a large part of them at least, are behind her and the red and black flag of the naturalized Italian Albanian.
However, the injury of the biggest name in Italian women's skiing, Frederica Brinjone, several times absolute champion, has left a country with a budget of around 70 million euros just for skiing, without a main contender for the Winter Olympics, Milano-Cortina 2026 and beyond. To remain on budgets and money, which is apparently also the Achilles heel of this relationship between the Colturi family and the Albanian Ski Federation, which despite all the kindness and going beyond the expectations of the government or the municipality of Tirana to meet the financial needs of a great talent like Lara, are still not enough and in fact, we are talking about one of the most expensive sports in the world.
But, her request to leave, according to confidential sources of "Top Channel" near the Olympic Committee, has not been approved, because based on the world rules of the International Ski Federation, if she leaves without approval, then Lara Colturi will have a year off, a year without the World Cup and everything in the year of the Winter Olympics, the one that takes place in January-February 2026-2027.
However, there are only a few days left to learn the final decision on what will happen, whether Colturi will be red and black or azure, in Milano-Cortina 2026. On May 1, the Executive Committee closes the deadline for the transfer of athletes from one Federation to another, a date that will undoubtedly decide for us and the Colturi family./Top Channel
