Belgium defeated the United States 4-1, securing qualification and earning praise for the way the situation related to the cancellation of the red card of American striker Folarin Balogun was managed.
After the meeting ended, a video of Croatian journalist Stjepan Balog's commentary on public television HRT went viral on social media, attracting attention with its irony.
After announcing the final score of 4-1 in favor of Belgium, Balog sarcastically commented on the possibility of further developments, referring to the White House's involvement in the issue of Folarin Balogun's "pardon" and implying that it could have an influence on this match as well.
"It's over! Belgium won 4:1. They are moving forward, they will go to Spain in the next round of the competition in the quarterfinals. However, we have to wait. Maybe tomorrow when we wake up, Belgium will have a conditional victory, maybe the White House will call again and some article of the Disciplinary Code will be invented. This was so clean that Belgium cannot be criticized for anything. There is no stain on their victory. The Americans were burning with the desire to do something, maybe the controversy over the red card had an impact on this. However, this is the most convincing victory in the round of 16, Belgium - USA 4:1", were the words of Balog from the Croatian state television.
