Today in Chile will be played the eternal derby, "El Clasico" between Colo-Colos and Universidad. In this duel for friends, 19-year-old Tomas Gilier will stand between the posts, accompanied by a very tragic family story. It's about a boy who lost both parents within seven months and now takes care of his younger sister and brother.
" How to stay strong? It is not difficult for me. I focus on issues that I can solve. If the club believes in me, that's great, but the most important thing is that I believe in myself and my abilities. All this is the result of planned work. Today I will make my debut in the derby, but for me it will be just another game. I'm very calm because I know I trained very well ," said Gilier.
Tomas' mother, Klaudia Correa Bilbao, a highly respected artist, died last January after a long battle with the disease. Just seven months ago, Tomas' father had passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest while on vacation in his hometown.
He was born in France and Thomas is also strongly connected to this European country.
" Experiences are not just the years you have spent in the world. It also depends on what you have experienced and what you have learned from other people's experiences. Tomas is a focused guy who knows how to learn from the examples of others, he is wise and very mature. He went through a lot and grew up early. Maybe that's why he already looks so mature even when he goes between the posts , "said the coach of Klub Universidad.
Gilier will make his debut in the derby today due to an injury to the first goalkeeper Sebastian Perez, as he has made six appearances this season.
