Atalanta secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Milan in a match full of goals and tension until the final seconds. The visitors dominated the first half with two quick goals, while Milan reacted late, but failed to avoid defeat.
Atalanta started the match perfectly and took the lead in the 7th minute with Ederson, who scored for 0-1. The friends continued to control the game and in the 29th minute they doubled the score with Davide Zappacosta, after an assist from Krstovic.
Milan encountered difficulties during the first half and failed to react, closing the first half at a 0-2 disadvantage.
In the second half, Atalanta struck again. In the 52nd minute, Giacomo Raspadori scored the third goal for 0-3, after an assist from Ederson, giving the away team a significant lead.
Milan reacted only in the last minutes. In the 88th minute, Strahinja Pavlovic scored for 1-3 after an assist from Ricci. As the game was heading towards the end, Chukwubuikem Nkunku narrowed the gap to 2-3 with a penalty in the 90+4 minute, but time was not enough for a comeback.
The challenge was also accompanied by some disciplinary problems. Atalanta's Hien was penalized in the 70th minute for unsportsmanlike conduct and will miss the next match. Estupinan and Saelemaekers also suffered the same fate at the end of the match.
With this loss, Milan also risks the place that would qualify them for the Champions League next season, as they are in fourth place, with equal points with Roma in fifth place. Meanwhile, Atalanta is in 6th place with 58 points, far from the European zone.
