Mario Mitaj is going through a difficult period at Al-Itihad, where he continues to be left out of the squad by coach Sergio Conceição. The Albanian national team defender was once again left out of the list in the last match of the championship, where Al-Itihad was defeated 3-4 by Neom SC, in a match with many goals.
This is the second time in a row that Mitaj has not been called up, ending up neither in the stands nor on the bench. The situation has raised questions, especially considering that the player is not reported to have any physical problems.
A day before the match, a video was published on the club's social media where Fabinjo asked Mitaj if the team was ready for the challenge. The Albanian defender's response was: " We are always ready ." This was interpreted as a signal for his inclusion in the team, but in practice the opposite happened.
At international level, Mitaj has started Albania's last two matches, confirming his role as a key option on the left wing of defence. This makes his lack of minutes at the club even more unclear.
The 29th round match in the Saudi top flight between Al-Ittihad and Neom SC produced seven goals and numerous turnovers. Al-Ittihad temporarily took a 3-2 lead, but failed to hold on to the lead, ultimately losing 3-4. Mitaj was not part of the team in any capacity in this match.
