Hames Rodríguez talks about his experience in Qatar, where from September 2021 until the following he wore the Al Rajan jersey with light and shade. Only 16 appearances, with 5 goals and 7 assists.
Interviewed by "Globo Esporte", the Colombian explains the difficult adaptation not only at the football level, but above all culturally to the country that overlooks the Persian Gulf:
" Life and culture in Qatar is very difficult, it was a country I had a hard time adapting to. Everyone knows that in football, in the showers, all the players are naked, but I couldn't even do that in Qatar. It was forbidden. It was scary, my teammates told me. Everyone eats with their hands at meals, I asked for a spoon and fork and they said no ."
Hames also had problems adjusting to Germany. The attacking midfielder wore the Bayern jersey from 2017 to 2019 and remembers: " It's a cold country and the people are also cold. There were times when I woke up and it was cold, very cold. I just thought what the hell I was doing there ."
Hames Rodríguez (32 years old) played for many big clubs in his career, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Porto, Monaco, Everton, Olympiakos and currently plays for Sao Paulo in Brazil. He was the best young player in the world and the best scorer of the World Cup 2014. After this performance, Real bought him for 75 million euros.
