33-year-old footballer Mario Pineda was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ecuador, while his wife was also killed in the same attack.
A security camera recorded the moment of the murderous attack, which occurred on Wednesday, while the 33-year-old was outside a store.
The footage shows two masked men approaching the footballer, pointing their guns at him, as he raises his hands up, as if begging for mercy.
In the following seconds, the two attackers empty their weapons on Pineda and his wife, while the footballer's mother was also injured by the gunfire.
Local media report that, although there is no official information on the motives for the murder, authorities suspect that it was the execution of a death contract that targeted the 33-year-old.
A few hours earlier, Pineda had allegedly republished an announcement from his teammates stating that they would not take to the field due to the debts of Barcelona SC, the club for which he played.
The double execution took place in the city of Guayaquil, which, according to the BBC, is one of the most problematic areas for gang violence and drug trafficking, with around 1,900 murders recorded from January to September.
