Pep Guardiola has decided to retire from playing football and coaching after leaving Manchester City. The Catalan coach confirmed this in an interview with GQ in Spain, where he revealed that he will act in the same way as he did after leaving Barcelona.

He also rejected the excessive criticism directed at him, recalling the extraordinary series of trophies he has won in his years as a coach. But making it clear that as long as he is on the bench, he will seek to win more trophies.

" After this period with Manchester City, I will stop. It is already decided, more than decided. I don't know how long it will last, whether it will be one year, two, three, five, ten or fifteen. I don't know. I know it will happen after this period with City because I have to stop and focus on myself, on my body. I have to do it.

This, the worst season? When you win six Premier League titles, there comes a bad moment. It's human nature. Maybe we should have changed more players, but it's easy to say that in hindsight. In the end, we reached the FA Cup final and finished third, not twelfth as we would have done if we had given up: it wasn't that bad. And now looking back, we realise that it wasn't all a disaster. But there were months when we didn't win. And I think what happened to us is something that does us good. All the injuries we had made us realise what went wrong. I think it will be positive for the years to come.

I expected criticism; it gives you energy. These are the same people who said I had won in Barcelona only because I knew the team and who told me when I arrived in Manchester that English football was different. In sport, you can't always win and losing is part of the process. Michael Jordan was the greatest, but he won six titles in 15 years. Tiger Woods was the greatest, but he also lost the most trophies of all those who played. I played 16 championships and won 13: I lost a few, but it wasn't bad. And I'm happy that it went that way, especially in this perfect society where we always have to show that we are happy. The important thing is to give everything and do your best: I know I haven't given up, that we have achieved worse results than we expected, but I will keep trying, convinced that next year things will be better. "Of course, there is no other profession in the world where 60,000 people are singing that you will lose your job the next morning, as happened to me for 4-5 months. The pressure we have on our shoulders is incredible ," Guardiola said, among other things.
