Giovanni Reyna was the protagonist of one of the most spectacular moments of the start of the 2026 World Cup, crowning the United States' 4-1 victory over Paraguay in the first match of Group D.
The match, played in front of nearly 70,000 fans in Los Angeles, was almost entirely controlled by the American team. The USA took the lead thanks to an own goal by Bobadilla and two goals by Folarin Balogun, taking control of the match in the first half. Paraguay responded after the break with a goal by Maurício, but were unable to really reopen the match.
The highlight came in the eighth minute of added time. Reyna, who had only been brought on a few minutes earlier, took advantage of an assist from Alex Freeman and fired a stunning goal with the outside of his foot, sending the ball into the top corner of the goal for a final score of 4-1.
The American midfielder's goal was enthusiastically received by the fans in the stadium and is considered one of the most beautiful goals of the first phase of the tournament.
With this convincing victory, the USA ideally begins its journey to the 2026 World Cup, confirming its ambitions and sending a strong signal to its rivals in Group D.
