After the publication of the Albanian U-21 National Team list for friendly matches, the name of Molde FK footballer Blerton Isufi became the subject of debate in sports media in Kosovo and Albania.
The controversy began after the player stated in the media that he had not given his consent to join the red and black national team and that his priority remained Kosovo. His statements were interpreted as a rejection of Albania's invitation.
However, official documents and communications obtained by journalist Endi Tufa of "Top Channel" present a different picture of the situation.
Player's message to Albania U-21 staff
According to published materials, Isufi sent a message to the technical staff of Albania U-21, expressing his willingness to join the national team, but arguing that the obstacle was related to his club's commitments.
His message states:
" I have been very willing and eager to come and represent my country, Albania. Unfortunately, the club is not giving me permission, as we have two very important matches in this period. I am very disappointed by this decision of the club. However, I am always at your disposal and I can't wait to come next time ."
This communication contrasts with public statements made earlier in the media, where the player had implied that his only choice was Kosovo.
What does the Molde club say?
A key element in this matter is the official correspondence between the Albanian Football Federation and the Norwegian club Molde.
In an email sent by club official Tove Berget to Albania U-21 National Team manager Denis Lilo, the club expresses its willingness to release the player after an important match scheduled for May 30.
The official communication states:
“ We are happy that Blerton Isufi has been selected for your U-21 team. However, we have an important match on May 30th and Blerton will probably be in the squad for that match. We will be happy to release him to travel on Sunday, May 31st. We hope this works for you .”
According to this document, Molde has not rejected the player's participation with Albania U-21, but has requested that he join the national team after completing his obligations with the club.
A debate affecting Albania-Kosovo sports relations
The case has brought back into focus discussions about footballers of Albanian origin who have the opportunity to represent more than one national team. In these cases, transparency in communication and clarity of decisions are considered essential to avoid tensions and misunderstandings between fans and sports institutions.
