Former Spanish footballer Andres Iniesta has not yet reached an agreement with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to take over the position of sports director of the national team, the news was reported by Spanish sports daily Marca.
According to reports, the parties have been in advanced negotiations and an official statement was even prepared, which was expected to be released today. However, in the end, no final agreement was reached. It remains to be seen in the coming days whether the talks will continue and whether the former Barcelona midfielder will accept this role.
Changes in the staff of the Moroccan national team
The Moroccan Football Federation has announced changes to the national team's coaching staff. On Thursday, it was announced that Walid Regragui has been replaced by Mohamed Ouahbi as the national team's coach.
Joao Sacramento, who has been an assistant coach at well-known clubs such as PSG, Roma and Tottenham, is also expected to be confirmed as part of the technical staff.
Xavi Hernandez in long-term plans
Meanwhile, Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez continues to be linked with the Morocco national team, with reports suggesting he is the leading candidate to take charge of the team after the 2026 World Cup.
Xavi is said to have been unwilling to take on a new project in the middle of the season and just before a major event like the World Cup. For this reason, the Moroccan Federation decided to entrust the bench to Mohamed Ouahbi for the time being.
However, after the 2026 World Cup, Moroccan football leaders may return to the Xavi option. In this context, the possibility remains open that in the future Spaniards Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez will be part of the project for the management and development of Moroccan football.
