Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário has commented on Cristiano Ronaldo's performance at the World Cup, saying that age and physical limitations are starting to affect the Portugal captain.
Portugal failed to live up to expectations at the World Cup held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. After being eliminated by Croatia in the round of 16 in a match that was accompanied by controversy, the Portuguese were stopped in the next round by Spain, losing 1-0.
One of the reasons for the early elimination, according to many analysts, was Cristiano Ronaldo's unconvincing form.
The legendary former Brazilian striker spoke about Ronaldo's performances, but also Neymar's.
"The body tells you when you can't do it anymore. Both Cristiano and Neymar have reached a point where they have to face their physical limitations. It's very difficult to fight against your body. Cristiano may still have the level for Saudi Arabia, but the World Cup is something completely different. The demands are much higher there," said Ronaldo Nazário.
He added that the desire to continue is not enough when the body no longer responds.
"Even though we love football and want to play it forever, the body is the one who makes the final decision. The mind wants it, but the body can't follow it anymore," said the former World Cup winner with Brazil in 1994 and 2002.
Ronaldo Nazário is considered one of the greatest strikers in the history of football and was the winner of the "Ballon d'Or" at the 1998 World Cup.
