The former coach of England is shocked: I have cancer, I have one more year to

Sven Goran Eriksson has terminal cancer and, at best, has about a year to live. The former coach of Rome, Lazio and England, the 75-year-old Swede revealed this during an interview in his homeland. Eriksson, who managed England for five years before leaving after the 2006 World Cup, resigned from his last role as sporting director at Swedish club Karlstad 11 months ago due to health problems.

Eriksson told Swedish radio P1: "Everyone sees that I have a disease that is not good and everyone assumes it's cancer, it is. But I have to fight it as long as possible. I know this at best. I have about a year to live, at worst less, or at best I suppose more, I don't believe the doctors I have available can't be absolutely sure, no they can put it in a day. It's better not to think about it. You have to trick your brain. I can walk around thinking about it all the time and sit at home and be miserable and think I'm unlucky and so on," he said.

Eriksson led Benfica to three Portuguese league titles and one European Cup runner-up finish before leading Lazio to their second and most recent Serie A triumph in 1999-2000.
