Albania has secured its first medal at the European Wrestling Championships for adults, which are taking place at the “Feti Borova” sports hall in Tirana. Wrestler Islam Dudaev managed to qualify for the final of the 65 kg freestyle weight class, guaranteeing at least a silver medal for the red and black team.
In the semifinals, the 31-year-old defeated Russia's Islam Guseinov 4-0, in a match where he dominated the mat from start to finish. Dudaev scored two points in each round, maintaining the lead and control of the match.
Earlier in the day, he had successfully passed two more rounds:
In the first match he won 6-1 against the Turkish Ahmet Duman.
In the quarterfinals, he triumphed 3-1 over Georgian Nika Zakashvili.
With this victory, Dudaev secures a place in the grand final, where he will face Russian Bashir Magomedov. The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon.
The result of the final will determine whether Albania will win the gold or silver medal in this category.
