A new scandal has rocked Italian football, with accusations leveled against the Serie A refereeing designer for deliberately selecting referees who favored Inter. The issue has become a major topic of public discussion in Italy and has even caught the attention of state institutions.
The Minister of Sports, Andrea Abodi, reacted through a post on social media, emphasizing the importance of transparency and equal treatment in such cases. He warned that there would be consequences if the allegations turn out to be true.
" There is only one way to protect the sports system in all its aspects and to respect fans, enthusiasts and lovers of sports, starting with football: transparency, timely action and equal treatment when faced with accusations of non-compliance with sports rules, especially when they have potential criminal implications. And let's do it always and with everyone !", Abodi said.
According to him, the investigation by the Milan Prosecutor's Office was launched following a complaint made by a former member of the Italian Referees Association. However, he raised concerns about the way this complaint was handled within football structures.
" I read, like all of you, the developments that emerged from the investigation by the Milan Prosecutor's Office, which began with a complaint from a former member of the Italian Association of Judges. Leaving the judicial authorities to do their job and without wanting to get into the merits of the actions of designer Roki, the most serious aspect that emerges is the way in which the complaint itself was handled within the football system. So far, there has been no public response, just as we do not know who received the complaint and which body was appointed to verify its existence ," he declared.
The minister also requested official information from the Italian Olympic Committee to clarify the situation as soon as possible.
" Therefore, I expect to receive official information from the Olympic Committee regarding this matter as soon as possible. If the responsibilities are proven, there cannot be no consequences ," Abodi stressed.
His statements imply that responsibilities may extend beyond the individuals directly involved, including structures within the institutions of Italian football.
