Real Madrid narrowly won 2-3 against Leganés and advanced to the semifinals of the King's Cup. In this match, Vinicius Junior was not the protagonist with a goal, but stood out for a debate with Luka Modric.
The Brazilian had a heated argument with the Croatian midfielder five minutes from the end of normal time, when the match was still tied (2-2). After a move that resulted in a corner kick for Leganes, Modric went to Vinicius to harshly reprimand him for not helping the team in the defensive transition.
The Brazilian hit back, and the Real captain didn't like the attitude at all, with the disagreement between the two clearly visible on the pitch. Following Vinicius' unexpected response, Federico Valverde also joined the controversy, siding with Modric in criticising the striker.
At that moment, Vinicius stopped arguing and focused on defending the corner kick.
In the post-match press conference, Carlo Ancelotti did not avoid the question about the incident, but admitted that he had not seen it, while indicating which side was right in his opinion.
" I don't know what happened, but we have to respect what Modric said, we always respect the captain ," said the Italian coach.
