An episode that is not at all normal, but often repeated in Albanian football, occurred today in the First Football League in Kosovo, where the protagonist was the renowned coach Faruk Statovci.
He was sent off in the match between Rilindja 1974 and Trepça, which ended in a 1-1 draw, after he severely insulted the referees of the match, for which he will surely face a harsh punishment. "You ***, you bastards, get it. Do you have Albanian blood," were Statovci's words.
The coach himself apologized through a reaction on social media and explained the reasons behind his "outburst" towards the referees.
" Dear viewers and football fans,
A video is circulating on social networks and portals where I appear nervous. I apologize for this behavior, as it does not represent my culture, but it was a momentary reaction. The reason for this reaction is what happened today on the field during the Trepça 1:1 Rilindja match, where our team, Rilindja, was severely damaged by the referees' decisions.
The decision to award an unfair penalty against us was unjustifiable and scandalous. Such a referral does not serve Kosovar football and is beyond any standard. As a coach, throughout my entire career I have not experienced such a referral, neither before nor during the war. This is excessive and unacceptable. I hope that justice in football will triumph and we will have a fair competition for all , "Statovci writes on social networks.
