The 2026 World Cup is bringing a crazy increase in prices. Data has already been released, showing that hotels go up to 3330 euros for the dates of June 10 and 11. The magic of football begins on June 11 and it seems that in Mexico they are exceeding all imagination.
Hotel nights in host countries are shown to have increased by an average of 300% of their respective prices. The largest increase is in Mexico City, where it is reported to be 2373%.
On the other hand, a room normally costs 135 euros. While the mentioned amount of 3330 euros has been seen to be applied now.
But in addition to hotel prices, tickets for the 2026 World Cup are also set to be the most expensive ever, after FIFA introduced a new resale model that includes a total commission of 30% on every transaction. The change has caused great discontent among English fans, who are already facing sky-high prices for group stage matches.
Prices for England matches have reached up to £1,000, while on second-hand resale sites a ticket for next year's final in New Jersey is selling for nearly £33,000. Fans say this is an unaffordable price to pay to follow their national team in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Under FIFA's new model, each buyer and seller pays a 15% commission on the resale market, significantly increasing the cost of tickets that usually change hands several times.
The England Supporters' Club, which has 27,000 members, will only get 8% of the World Cup tickets, around 3,600 at some stadiums. Affordable tickets for the group stage will cost between £85 and £125, but their numbers are very small.
The fans' reactions have been fierce. Richard Wilson, a Chelsea fan, declared: "There's no way ordinary fans are paying that much to watch England. We all know what FIFA stands for."
For its part, FIFA, led by Gianni Infantino, defends the new model, saying that dynamic pricing is common practice in the US for high-demand events. FIFA promises that the next phase of sales, which starts on December 11, will include special offers with fixed prices.
