The captain of Grashopper, Amir Abrashi, has told about the nightmare he experienced before the play-out matches in the Swiss Super League against Thun.
The Albanian midfielder's team survived thanks to a 2-1 victory in the second match, as the first match ended in a 1-1 draw.
" It was one of the most important moments in my career. I was not a man. I hardly spoke at home, luckily my wife understood the situation. I had sleepless nights and thought many things in my head. If I had been relegated from the Superliga, I would have been so ashamed that I would not have dared to drink a coffee in the city of Zurich. I don't know what the first fall in my career would have done to me and the club, mentally too. I don't even want to know ", Abrashi told "Blick".
After ensuring his survival, Abrashi left for Albania. With the Red and Black National Team, he started preparations for the European Championship that took place in Germany.
" The emotional state was absolute madness, hard to put into words. It took me a few days to recover. There were nights when I woke up with nightmares and thought I was in the play out again ", said Abrashi.
Abrashi, now 34 years old, has played 250 games for Grashoper. He appeared in 50 matches with Albania, scoring only 1 goal.
