IT expert Besmir Semanaj has raised the alarm about the lack of transparency about the origin and function of DPI devices that have been introduced in Albania to block the social network Tik Tok.
He told "Vizion Plus" that seven such devices have been installed in the country, each at a cost of over 100 thousand euros, but no state institution is listed as a buyer.
Borakaj: Since March 29, when you filed your complaints with the DPI, have you received any response?
Semanaj: It was publicly acknowledged that these devices were installed. We have 7 devices in Albania. They said they are not dangerous. After a year they will remove them again.
Borakaj: Did they decide on TikTok, or was it just an excuse?
Semanaj: I can't say that. As long as we don't have a legal basis, as long as we don't know how these devices came about, companies should have access. From our experience, private companies are more reliable than state-owned ones.
Borakaj: How much does such a device cost?
Borakaj: Do you have information whether there is a donor or whether they were bought?
Semanaj: Rumor has it that it's a donation.
