Only 3 property seizures under the Anti-Mafia Law...
The Special Prosecution Office seems to be using the Anti-Mafia Law sparingly. Although the basic element when investigating a crime boss or a corrupt person is to verify whether or not he justifies his wealth, by going to family members, clan, etc., SPAK prefers to rely more on the Criminal Code than the Anti-Mafia Law.
Referring to data from 2024, SPAK reports in its annual report that within the framework of this law, it has confiscated criminal assets for only 3 people. Meanwhile, assets for 8 people have been seized.
" Regarding seizures under the Anti-Mafia Law, during 2024, it is noted that the number of seizures is the same as the seizures of 2023, while within the framework of seizures based on the Criminal Code, an increase is evidenced from 8 seizures in 2023, to 17 seizures in 2024 or otherwise they have doubled. Regarding seizures under the Anti-Mafia Law, during 2024 compared to 2023, a decrease in the number of these seizures is observed, from 5 seizures in 2023, to 3 seizures in 2024. Also, a decrease in the number of seizures according to the Criminal Code is observed, from 20 confiscation decisions in 2023, to 11 confiscation decisions in 2024 ," the report states.
The value of seized and confiscated assets for 2024 is estimated at approximately 65.5 million euros. This includes the value of assets seized and confiscated under the Anti-Mafia Law, the Criminal Code and the Normative Act (OFL). Of the total, approximately 36.8 million euros is the value of confiscated assets and approximately 28.7 million euros is the value of seized assets.
While the value of confiscated assets during 2024 is around 938 million lek, up from 440 million lek in 2023.
But what is noticeable is that political mammoths continue to escape the scanning of their assets. We have dozens of names that are under investigation by SPAK and have sheikhs' wealth, but still no thorn in their side. Meanwhile, if the Anti-Mafia law were to be implemented, many names would not be able to justify their luxury. / Pamphlet
