
The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, has commemorated the 104th anniversary of the beginning of the Lushnja Congress.
According to Begaj, representatives from all Albanian territories gathered to save Albania from the impending dismemberment. He adds that great patriots put aside differences and came together for the ideal and national interest.
"Representatives from all Albanian territories gathered at the Congress of Lushnja (January 21-31, 1920) to save Albania from the danger of fragmentation. The delegates reaffirmed their commitment to full independence and territorial integrity of Albania. True patriots, they left the differences and came together putting the national interest above everything. Tribute to their patriotic model!", writes the head of state.
The Congress of Lushnja, which is known as a great event in the history of our nation, was held from January 21 to 31, 1920, in which a constitutional act was approved for the complete independence of Albania.
During the working days, the Congress elected the high council of 4 people, which would perform the functions of the head of state, and a national council of 37 people. Sulejman Delvina was elected Prime Minister.
The Congress held its work in the house of the Lušnja patriot, Kaso Fuga. Delegates chosen from all over Albania participated in that Congress.
