The situation in the village of Hasturkas, in the Libofshë administrative unit, remains problematic 24 hours after the Seman River overflowed its banks.
According to residents of the area, the water has receded by about 20 cm, but despite this, 20 homes continue to be flooded, while damage is also considerable to stables, large areas of agricultural land, planted crops, mainly vineyards, olive trees and fodder, but also beehives.
"I have 70 acres of land, planted with oats and alfalfa, they are completely flooded. We don't know what will happen. We expect the state to help us, we have our eyes on the government. Who else can we ask for support? I didn't have any damage to my livestock. The embankment has burst 3-4 times, they need to take measures to isolate it because the land is oversaturated with water. Our appeal is for the government to take measures. We ask the state for help," said a resident.
"The bees are inside, what can I say, let's see what happens. There is water inside the apartment. So there was no flooding," said another resident.
Faced with this desperate situation, residents say that the government should send verification teams as soon as possible to identify the damage caused by the flood and pave the way for compensation.
"I have a hectare of barley and a few beehives. When we heard that the water was coming, I tried to pack up my belongings. We are waiting, I don't know how long it will take. We are appealing for help," the resident emphasized.
On the other hand, the situation remains alarming due to the breach of the embankment in several segments, a fact that according to residents poses a serious risk, as new rainfall is forecast and there is fear of a second flood.
Residents are demanding urgent intervention from the Drainage Board to block the cracks and avoid worsening the situation.
According to data from the field, the situation is gradually moving towards normalization. Residents report that there have been few dead birds, but no drowned livestock, thanks to the intervention of army forces, which have helped remove livestock from stables and homes surrounded by water. Some residents who remained isolated due to the flood have been evacuated and settled in safe areas, out of danger from the water.
The situation in Hasturkas remains under constant monitoring, while residents expect concrete measures and rapid intervention to repair the embankment and assess the damage.
