Ziver Veizi was killed 13 years ago by state bullets that were fired at the protesters on January 21, 2011. His family members live with that moment every day, as Veizi collapses in front of the railings of the prime minister's office.
With pain in her heart, sister Trëndafile Muhametaj asks for justice and says that they will turn to SPAK in the hope that the right will prevail. In the interview given to Report TV, Veiz's sister demands from SPAK a fair investigation and punishment for those who ordered the 4 murders.
She points the finger for the murder of her brother at the prime minister of that time, Sali Berisha, while saying that the orderers and implementers of that state crime must be punished.
Trendafile Muhametaj says that her brother was killed with his hands in his pockets, while he says that the killing of 4 protesters was premeditated.
She also comments on the decision of Strasbourg on January 21, which she says was called a state crime and that her brother and the other 3 protesters were killed by the government.
Full interview:
Today marks the 13th anniversary of the tragic events of January 21, 2011. A protest called by the then opposition, the Socialist Party, ended with 4 people killed. We will stop at this moment on that serious event, but also seen from the point of view of those people who have suffered the most, their family members. We will contact Mrs. Trëndafile Muhametaj, who is also the sister of one of the victims, Ziver Veizi. How do you remember that day?
Trendafile Muhametaj: Of course, I feel the same pain as the day the event happened because the murder of our brother was filmed quite clearly. The moment he is hit with a bullet and falls to the ground. With hands in pockets. We were very shocked. It's been 13 years and we feel the same pain. Only one person was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Guardsman Agim Lupo was imprisoned. But in reality we did not learn whether he did or not for so many years. It is an open wound for us as the criminal justice at that time left much to be desired, when for such serious crimes you receive such a low sentence.
What do you ask of the new SPAK justice, after that decision that came from the Strasbourg Court that calls it a state murder?
Trëndafile Muhametaj: In Albanian justice, we ask him to judge him correctly. However, we know that on February 27 the Court of Appeal has a case for the January 21 reinvestigation. Once it is over, we will turn to SPAK and we are confident that SPAK will make a fair and not ridiculous decision.
If we go back to those years. Were there attempts or pressure even without the murder that was done to your brother a few meters from the Prime Minister's office or exponents of the Democratic Party or the government at that time?
What do you suspect happened that day? Who could have executed your brother? Where are you pointing the finger?
Muhammad Rose: We don't have a finger. The finger belongs to the orderers. Who was prime minister, who was minister. I can't put my finger on the man, but I think it was premeditated.
Many years have passed. Let's make the conversation a little clearer. Who do you think the commanders could have been?
Muhammad Rose: The commanding ones who have been in the government because they ordered it. They had the guard under control. It was called a state crime by Strasbourg. While it was called a state crime, they were killed by the government, who was in the government. We are waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court and then we will open this case again in SPAK. For this reason, we appeal to the authorities to make a fair trial for the orderers, the enforcers because they have killed 4 innocent people, with their hands in their pockets. Especially my brother who has been with his hands in his pockets. The eyes of the whole world have seen it. On January 21, we will only see my brother fall to the ground. The wound opens for us just like on January 21, 2011, the murder of my brother.
One last question, an appeal. I know that it is not easy for you to look at those terrible sights.
Muhametaj rose: I am touched because I am a poisoned sister. With two brothers because I don't have only him. My other brother also ran away like that and no one has investigated because they crushed me in the middle of the road.
A final appeal to the new justice!
Trendafile Muhametaj: The new justice should investigate the case as it is to be investigated. Albanian justice of that time left much to be desired. Now we have faith in SPAK. For this serious crime, the punishment should have been very severe. We will turn to SPAK. We have faith in the new justice that will bring justice to the country. We have hopes.
