One of the most commented files recently is "January 21st". Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has been questioned, while recently, in the last few hours, there has been a request from Ilir Meta, the president of the Freedom Party, in detention, to testify about January 21st.
While speaking on the show "Të Pashoq" on the 'Pamflet' YouTube channel, former prosecutor Ervin Karanxha described it as an unprecedented case.
He also stated that the General Prosecutor's Office made mistakes with the investigation and verifications for "January 21" 15 years ago. Karanxha emphasized that the plot was buried by Ina Rama.
What do you expect from the January 21 file, which is now in the hands of SPAK and which seems to be being summoned and questioned by the main exponents? Earlier, we recall that Lulzim Basha was also questioned.
-Former Prosecutor Karanxha: It is an unprecedented case. You are asking them now about a matter that happened 15 years ago, asking them about an event, because in a month or two months, 15 years have passed. Now, it was a procedural error by the General Prosecutor's Office at that time, which should have taken over the investigations from the beginning and with the Criminal Procedure Code of the time, it was allowed to take over the investigations and carry out verifications, we are using this word verification, for senior officials it should have been done by the General Prosecutor's Office, which at that time was prosecutor Ina Rama, who did not do the job.
They should have been given a case number, started the investigation, their questioning. Whether they come or not is another matter. So the case is registered. If they don't come, a report is kept, the papers are taken that this person who was questioned, so that you can leave the task to the successor to question others.
So today we have an event from 15 years ago and as time passes, we have details that are forgotten, because 15 years is not a little. And when a person is sentenced to 15 years in prison, it is a lot. Now in terms of actions, at least, at least the decision of the Supreme Court and the decision of the Constitutional Court are being implemented. It is a positive thing that we should not fall into pessimism that they will not be done.
