The removal of the fence installed in the Kakomesë area has become one of the main topics of the 20th citizens' protest against the government, which is taking place this evening in Tirana. From the protest podium, one of the participants stated that the authorities' withdrawal came as a result of pressure exerted by citizens and warnings of a mobilization on the ground in the coming days.
In his speech to the protesters, he recalled that just a few days ago a call had been made for a gathering in Kakome, as according to him, citizens had requested help with the situation created by the installation of fences in the area.
"The day before yesterday we made a call to go to Kakome on Sunday because they have put up fences and the citizens have asked us for help. The authorities listened to us and went and removed the fence that we were going to tear down by hand and today they tore it down with an excavator. They are afraid," said the protester.
His statement was met with applause and cheers from those present, who considered the removal of the fence as a reaction by the institutions to public pressure.
According to the protester, the authorities' action shows that the voice of citizens can influence decision-making, while he argued that continued mobilization is the only way to achieve the results sought by protest participants.
"They brought the bulldozers, but we will win all the battles one by one until we overthrow the government and the prime minister. Resign!" he declared to cheers from the crowd.
The protester's speech was accompanied by calls against the government and demands for the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama, a demand that has been repeatedly repeated during recent protests.
