368 million euros is the aid that will be given by the European Union and a number of other financial institutions, for the rehabilitation of the Vorë - Hani i Hoti railway.
It is expected that the works will start in 2025, while the relevant procurement procedures will be developed this year.
The new project envisages the extension of the track and the construction of 12 new bridges to accommodate the new electric wagons and ensure a maximum speed of up to 120 km/h.
"This 120-kilometer line is the only railway line that enables international transport of goods and passengers between the country and Montenegro. And Albania and Montenegro are connected through the Tuzi station to then continue to Podgorica and other countries in the region, Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubjana to Budapest", said Erjola Muka, Director of Policy and Development of Infrastructure and Territory.
At the end of this year, the completion of the Tirana-Durrës railway line with a branch at the Rinas airport is expected, which will be connected with that of Vorë-Hani i hoti.
"The Albanian railway network starts with Durrës, which is considered kilometer zero. Then it is complementary to other projects, which are expected to start. In addition to this project, the project of the Durrës-Rrogozhine railway line, which is part of Corridor 8, has also benefited. Meanwhile, the feasibility study and design of the rest of the 8th corridor Rrogozhine-Pogradec up to the border with North Macedonia is still in the process of study. said Muka in an interview for Top Channel.
