"Evangelismos" Hospital has issued an official response regarding the health condition of the Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, Anastas.
According to the official announcement, the next 48 hours of Anastas are critical, while the Archbishop underwent an emergency operation to treat a hemorrhagic episode and was transferred again intubated to the Intensive Care ward.
At noon on Friday, Archbishop Anastas was urgently admitted to the operating room and underwent an operation on the gastrointestinal system by the surgeon, Stelios Kapiri, Director of the Hospital's C Surgical Clinic. The operation ended shortly before 18:30 and now Fortlumturia will stay in the Intensive Care Unit.
As it has become known, the Archbishop had gastric bleeding, which the doctors, from the first moment he was hospitalized, tried to treat it. The 96-year-old prelate had shown a rapid deterioration in his health and in the last few hours he was intubated and transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.
His blessing, Anastasi, has been in the Evangelismos hospital since last Friday, when he was transferred to Athens from Tirana by Air Force planes. From December 30, he was hospitalized in a clinic in Tirana. The initial diagnosis was a seasonal virus.
However, given his poor health and age, the virus turned into an infection and he bled. Then, it was deemed necessary to transfer him to Athens, where he was also hospitalized during the Covid period and the doctors of Evangelismos, directed by Professor Anastasia Kotanidou, know very well his medical history.
