The investigative journalist, Artan Hoxha, has stated that the massive constructions in Tirana have as their source the money that comes from drug trafficking and corruption.
In an interview for the show "The Unexposed", Hoxha stated that this construction boom has caused Albania to have a stock of 55,000 apartments in Tirana alone.

I know the names of these towers as they are from Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador. The legitimate company is the one that does the paperwork and does all the obvious work and the money part is everything else. Today in Albania, 95 percent of cranes are located in the capital. Only Dubai has this kind of level.
Part of the financing that comes from abroad and today they finance large companies and this is harming the healthy part of the economy. Since banks have many criteria to lend, they don't have documentation to lend and they need big companies to invest that money and big companies need cash, so we are in front of facilities and projects that have a lot space, with prices as in Dubai ", said Hoxha.
