"It's absurd to bring Spaç back to '73 for a film",

In recent days, there has been an intervention in Spaç prison, which has brought reactions from various associations. Analyst Fatos Lubonja, a former political prisoner who has suffered a lot in this prison, invited to "Opinion" on News24, stated that traces of history cannot be erased in this way.

According to Lubonja, what is happening in Spaç is a bad feeling, it is not a matter of anger or accusations. Analyst Lubonja, as a man who has suffered for many years in this infamous prison, says it is absurd to intervene to bring Spaç back for a film, to bring him back to the way he was in 1973.

Fatos Lubonja: " I spent almost 10 years in Spaç, out of 17 years in prison in total. I was exposed to the demolition of Spaç early on and the color white has always struck me. Since the early 1990s, there has been intervention in Spaç and the demolition began. A Canadian company had come to the mine and demolished part of the camp. Now there is a Turkish company nearby and it is full of noise with trucks. While there should have been peace. A destruction of memory. They want to make money even with the memory of suffering.

Now they are doing something else to us in the name of reconstruction. They are erasing traces of history, historical events. It is a bad feeling, of the destruction of memory. It is not anger and accusation. There are many arguments why there should not have been intervention in Spaç.

First, there are different approaches to how it can be done. There was a hearing and it was a good proposal. It was an archaeological approach. The film being made there goes back to Spaçi in 1973, to the uprising. Spaçi was built in 1967, it had barracks. Over time, work began to be done. I went there in 1975. All these objects that we want to restore do not serve the film because we are not faithful to the reality of that time, since the white meeting building was not like that. It did not even exist. Because the meetings were held in barracks, which normally have disappeared over time.

The Spaçi revolt begins at the gate. Meanwhile, you make a film about the Spaçi revolt without this gate. It is absurd to think of making a film about the Spaçi of '73 by intervening with reconstructions, because it cannot be done. There is no return to originality, because Spaçi himself has evolved from '73 onwards, until '90. It is like restoring the Colosseum to make the film Gladiator. You cannot erase the traces, even that drawing of three on the stairs, because it is part of history. Imagine covering it with cement now, to make Spaçi the way it was originally built .
