The Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime has rejected this Friday the request of former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, to change the security measure "prison arrest" in connection with the investigations into the SASPAC file.
The request filed by Beqaj's lawyer argued that the former minister, also the former director of SASPAC, has not been taken as a defendant by SPAK and does not pose a risk of leaving the country, given that he has been cooperative during the process.
The court, presided over by Judge Rudina Palloj, decided not to accept this request during the session that began at 09:30 in the morning.
The GJKKO decision comes just two days after the Supreme Court rejected the appeal filed by Beqaj against the security measure "Arrest with imprisonment".
Beqaj was arrested on July 4, 2024, by order of SPAK, as part of the investigation led by prosecutor Elida Kaçkini into suspicions of abuse of public funds from the SASPAC program. The investigation into this matter is ongoing, while Beqaj remains in custody.
