Albanian government 'strikes' US Embassy after alarm over risk of attacks by Iran-linked groups...
The security alert issued a few hours ago has created a clash between the US embassy and the Albanian government.
The embassy published a message, perhaps the strongest in this entire month of conflict with Iran, warning of terrorist attacks in our country by individuals linked to Tehran.
“ Iranian-affiliated groups may target entities affiliated with the United States or elements of the Iranian opposition in Albania. They may also target common locations, such as tourist sites, shopping malls, hotels, clubs, and restaurants. We encourage U.S. citizens to exercise increased vigilance ,” the U.S. embassy said.
Although the message was addressed to American citizens, it is an alarm bell for security in the country, as according to the embassy, there may be attacks on MEK, cafes, hotels, or shopping centers.
But this did not please the Albanian government at all. In a statement to the media, the Media and Information Agency described the US embassy's alarm as speculation. According to it, the Albanian authorities have no information about such attacks.
" The US Embassy regularly issues such alerts, even when opposition groups protest by burning trash cans or throwing Molotov cocktails to appear in photographs in foreign newspapers, but the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Albania have no disturbing information regarding this assumption of the US Embassy.
"So we invite American citizens not to miss any of the wonderful opportunities that Albania offers, with its countless tourist sites, its unrivaled hospitality, and its impeccable food ," the response reads.
Albania is one of the few countries in Europe that has entered into conflict with Iran. The clashes began after Albania received about 3,000 Iranian mujahideen, representatives of the Iranian opposition. Even the former leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, declared a few years ago: " A small European country, very small and very evil, has conspired with the US and the traitors of the MEK against Iran ."
But the clashes escalated after the cyberattack on Albanian systems. The ambassador was then expelled and the embassy was closed. Meanwhile, a few days ago, Albania declared Iran a state sponsor of terrorism. /Pamphlet
