'Anticorruption'/ The Director of the Economic Crime Investigation

During today's "Anticorruption" roundtable, the prevention of money laundering and transnational corruption was discussed.

Gentian Ndoi, director for the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation, said there is information that cryptocurrencies are being widely used to hide and launder money that comes from crime.

"We are creating a new approach with cryptocurrencies as well, as the information is that cryptocurrencies are widely used to hide assets that come from crime and secondly to facilitate the laundering of this money. It's a new approach for us, I'm going, with the trainings. We are fighting together with the support of the ministry to have as much access as possible to state and private databases. It is very necessary. It is terribly necessary since a bureaucratic work that is done through letters sent to institutions, which often blocks their work and ours, an officer can easily do from his office, without being noticed and finally have a product to refer to the prosecutor, and the prosecutor then to the court", he emphasized.

Klajd Karameta, Deputy Minister of Justice, underlined that cryptocurrencies represent a revolution and that we must embrace the technology.
