Journalist Klodiana Lala spoke about the arrest of former minister Ilir Beqaj. She said that SPAK received approval from GJKKO for 7 security measures, of which two are under house arrest and two are forced to appear, while 3 others are under prison arrest.
Lala said that during the checks that were carried out in the apartments of the persons, 7 million lek (old) and 47 thousand euros were found, as well as computers or telephones that could serve the investigation were seized.
She emphasized that the arrests are related to SPAK's investigations on "SASPAK" funds. The journalist said that in this particular case, charges related to corruption, fraud, concealment of wealth have been filed and possible suspicions of money laundering are being investigated, but for the latter, we do not yet have a charge filed.
She said that the prosecution has conducted proactive investigations. Lala said that one of Beqaj's closest people, Ermal Kurtulaj, used to go to SPAK in the latter's car.
"Why did a former minister or former MP use someone else's car? Ermal Kurtulaj, after making a fictitious invoice for a business 'X', goes to the New Tirana area and takes an envelope with money.
Going to the abuse of international funds is beyond imagination. On December 28, 2023, SPAK exercised control in several apartments, including that of Ilir Beqaj, Ermal Kurtulaj, his driver, a pharmaceutical company.
During these checks, invoices were found, it was investigated and what came out: Ilir Beqaj ordered 8 tenders, in cooperation with Ermal Kurtulaj, who was the project coordinator, and the winners were predetermined. The funds were from the EU", said Lala for "News24".
