
Nearly 2,300 people have died from the two powerful earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, that shook Venezuela on June 24, according to a new toll released today by the president of the parliament, Jorge Rodriguez.
Specifically, according to the update, at least 2,295 people have died, while 11,267 have been injured. However, there are fears that the number of victims will increase significantly, as the missing are estimated at around 50,000.
Earlier today, Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, declared seven days of national mourning.
"The soul of Venezuela has been shattered by the lives lost in these devastating earthquakes. As a tribute to the memory of the victims, I have decided to declare seven days of national mourning starting today at 6:00 p.m.," Delcy Rodriguez said in a message shared on Telegram.
