Lawyer Edmond Petraj says that the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, will not escape the security measure of "prison arrest".
Petraj said that Greece violated the Vienna Convention and interfered in Albania's internal affairs.
According to Petraj, the Beleri case is a matter of Albanian justice and not of European justice, as Greece claims.
"Greece is very lucky that they are not thoroughly investigating the telephone records of whom Beleri communicated with. He communicated with certain Greek political circles. He has relied on Greek politics. They jumped into action to get Himara Municipality to do it. The part of Greek politics that deals with Beleri, they have no problems in Greece, this is what Greek politics is doing in Albania, they have violated the Vienna Convention, they have interfered in the internal affairs of Albania. Fredi Beleri cannot escape the "prison arrest" measure. The Beleri case, which is claimed to be part of European justice, is part of Albanian justice.
This is the decision taken by the court, it will be investigated under the security measure of "prison arrest". "Which judge will release him so that he can take the oath, that judge has violated the constitution, the reform in justice", he emphasized in an interview for "Ora e Fundit".
Fredi Beleri was arrested in the premises of a bar in Himare, just 2 days before the local elections on May 14, after he was caught red-handed with his colleague Pandeli Kokaveshi buying votes.
Beleri could not take office, as the judicial authorities did not give him permission to take the oath. This issue has become a main topic in the relations between Greece and Albania.
