The Balkans makes progress on fiscal transparency, DASH: Meets the minimum

In the new report of the US Department of State, the countries of the Western Balkans - Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia - are ranked among the countries that meet the minimum requirements of fiscal transparency.

The report states that out of 140 countries assessed, 72 meet the minimum requirements of fiscal transparency.

Of those that do not meet them, the report states, 25 have made significant progress towards fulfilling these requirements.

"Fiscal transparency is a key element of the effective management of public finances and helps build confidence in the market," states the report of the US Department of State, published on June 27.

"The minimum requirements of fiscal transparency include the possession of budget documents that are available to the public, substantially complete and generally reliable," the report also states.

The report covers the period from January 1 to December 31, 2022.

The assessment took into account information from US embassies and consulates, from international organizations and from civil society organizations. /REL
