Residents affected by the TID project gathered again this Wednesday in front of the Durrës Municipality, demanding more transparency regarding the project and the procedures being followed.
Unlike the protest the day before, this time a representative group of residents held a meeting with the municipality's legal director, Alneida Rroshi.
After the meeting, the residents' representative, architect Entela Koja, stated that the municipality has informed them that a complete reassessment of the buildings is being carried out and their legal status is being verified, prior to the Council of Ministers' approval of the expropriations.
"The main thing is for the Ministry of Culture to bring in a working group to identify all properties. We are not for demolition and expropriation where there is no need to demolish anything," said Entela Koja.
According to residents, about 20 families near the amphitheater area oppose the planned interventions, arguing that a full verification of the properties and facilities that will be affected was not carried out in the initial phase of the project.
They also express that they have uncertainties regarding the changes made to the project and demand that the entire process be accompanied by official documentation and concrete deadlines.
"We ask to be informed in writing about all procedures. They do not accept the fact that the destinations of religious communities have been changed, although we have statements from them that accept it," said Koja.
The TID project envisages the transformation of the historic center of Durrës, including the amphitheater area and the “Epidamn” boulevard. This project has brought reactions and opposition from residents, as it envisages the demolition of dozens of homes and businesses.
According to data, around 74 families are affected by the expropriation process, while the fund foreseen for compensation amounts to around 315 million lek.
