Journalist Artan Hoxha made a sensational statement a week ago on the show "The Unexposed", stating that Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, once burned the Albanian flag.
During a debate at TPZ, Hoxha was asked by the secretary of OMONIA, Marin Suli, if he has evidence for this. The journalist stated that Beleri was sentenced by the court, while the ECtHR in Strasbourg did not reject the decisions of the Albanian court.
Excerpts from the studio debate:
Artan Hoxha : Mr. Beleri left and did not appear. He was declared wanted and was not extradited until the sentence was presented.
Marin Suli : Tell me a little, do you have any photos? Do you have any photos of the flag burning?
Artan Hoxha : I have them too, no worries.
Klodiana Lala : There is a court decision on this. Do you accept this yourself, that ten years have passed and it was prescribed?
Marin Suli : Don't worry for nothing.
Artan Hoxha : Regarding the 2003 decision, that decision was also prejudiced and called a decision given under pressure. The case went to Strasbourg and in 2015, when Mr. Beleri was a candidate, he requested that the trial was unfair, innocence and compensation. The Strasbourg court called the decision of the Albanian courts right.
Marin Suli : Give me proof that he burned the flag.
Artan Hoxha : You have him in court, he is done with this case.
Marin Suli : There are no photos and videos and there was no flag burning.
Artan Hoxha : I, who was there, did not see it. Who put the photos and videos out there? I told you that Strasbourg has made the decision of the Albanian court fair.
