Gjin Gjoni has been elected chairman of the PD branch in Lezhë with a deep difference of votes, in front of two other candidates Alber Rrusti and Paulin Marku. More than 1100 members participated in the voting.
For Gjoni, it is the second attempt to enter politics, after the proposal for deputy in 2021.
A few years ago, Gjon, the judge who escaped vetting in justice by resigning at the moment when he had to justify his wealth, got his name to be elected as a legislator through Berisha's candidates. The former prime minister withdrew and removed his name after great pressure from public and international opinion, but Gjoni does not seem to give up his desire to enter politics.
In addition to the only declared assets of 1 million euros, Gjin Gjoni is remembered for several sensational files that he closed as a judge, while one of the important ones was the attempted coup by Berisha on September 14, 1998, which was closed and archived without anyone convicted, while the organizer of the uprising, Sali Berisha, has not even been interrogated. A connection between the judge and the politician is now proven with the candidacy.
