The Muslim community of Albania has reacted regarding the arrest of the cardiologist Dervish Hasi, a practitioner of the Islamic religion, accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl for two years.
"We distance ourselves from any individual or group that misuses religion for nefarious purposes," the statement said.
" In response to numerous questions from the media about the case of the arrest of a doctor suspected of abuse and other crimes, we clarify the following: The Muslim Community of Albania is a religious institution, which exercises its activity in accordance with the Constitution and the laws in force of the Republic of Albania.
It is an institution that deals with religious life and the transmission of the clear and pure Islamic message in our country, which it has been practicing for a century in accordance with the highest religious principles and in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Albania. We find it inappropriate the high interest in a matter that does not belong to the KMSh, but to the law enforcement bodies of the Albanian state.
The Muslim community, like any other religion, does not keep a record of psychological data or deviations of the various natures of people, whether they are frequenters of our places of worship or not. We distance ourselves from any individual or group that misuses religion for nefarious purposes.
We ask the media and public opinion to be correct and careful in their citations when reporting similar events. An individual who is subject to law enforcement agencies cannot be anything more than that. We distance ourselves from any individual who commits low and ugly acts, much less cowering behind faith. Islam is a religion of peace, high morality and justice! "- said in the statement.
