Violence against Breakfast, the National Chamber of Advocacy decides to boycott

After today's meeting held behind closed doors by the National Chamber of Advocacy, it has been decided to boycott all court proceedings for the next three days, starting from tomorrow.

The decision was taken in the assembly of the Chambers of Advocacy, after the brutal attack on the professor and lawyer, Sokol Mêngjesi.

During the days of the boycott, lawyers will only follow security measures, while no court proceedings will take place.

Lawyer Sokol Mêngjesi has been sent for specialized treatment in Greece by his family members.

Before the start of the meeting, the chairman of the National Chamber, Maksim Haxhia, said that violence against lawyers is intolerable, while he asked politics to avoid attacks against lawyers, who have demonstrated a high level of professionalism in their work.

At the beginning of his speech, Haxhia wished lawyer Mêngjesi a speedy recovery, while thanking the State Police and the media for their commitment.

"We thank the State Police for their willingness to investigate the incident, identify and arrest the perpetrators, who will appear before justice where they should receive the well-deserved punishment. We also thank the doctors for their professional commitment to keep our colleague under control. We also thank the media for the work developed and for being by our side", said Haxhia.

Further, the head of the National Chamber of Advocates highlighted the problems of the sector.

"We have collected and forwarded with concern all the denigrations that have been made to the Chamber of Advocates, lawyers and our profession. A similar attitude has been maintained with the lawyers in Durrës, who have positioned them in inappropriate and unprofessional human environments to practice their profession. I congratulate the Chamber of Durrës for the decision-making and unison attitude of all members. However, we had a meeting together with the governing bodies and the president of the Durres Chamber of Advocates and the president of the Durres Court, who, for the sake of truth, admitted that the situation was not at all appropriate with the order he had given us. We were told that he would revoke the order and we thank him for revoking it," continued Haxhia.

The pilgrimage also stopped at the Reform in Justice.

"It is not what we wanted and expected to see, that we wanted to conceive justice as impartial, dependent and fearful and not discriminatory especially for lawyers. This caused us to be in this situation today.

He calls on the public to show a high degree of civility, to appreciate the lawyer's profession. The lawyer is the highest intellectual level of justice, which helps to realize justice and do not start from the narrow interests of losing a trial. Tomorrow you may need a lawyer again for another trial. I also call on politics, the executive, to give up the typification of lawyers as the cause of situations, as lawyers of criminals, on the contrary, to find protective elements and in the one who makes a mistake, it shows a high level and civilization of society and the state" , he emphasized. Max Haxhia.

Lawyer Sokol Mênjesi was raped on May 29 by three people in the Ish-blok area, a few moments after leaving his son in the kindergarten. The rapists left in a vehicle that was waiting for them nearby. The police investigated the incident, arresting the organizer and one of the perpetrators, while the other three persons were declared wanted. The police offer 20,000 euros to anyone who provides information for the arrest of the perpetrators.
