Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi are officially divorced...
After many years of marriage, Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi have officially divorced. The decision was made today (April 11) by the Civil Court.
Also present at the session at the Civil Court of Tirana was the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, who has been in prison since October 2024, as part of SPAK investigations.
Meta was escorted from his cell in prison 313 to the Civil Court by Prison Police forces. Meanwhile, Monika Kryemadhi did not appear at the hearing, but is represented by her defense attorney, Redi Llanaj.
"Given the interest of the media, I would like to inform you as follows: Today, on 11.04.2025, at 10:30, at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, Civil Chamber, a reconciliation session was held as well as a court session with the object of marriage dissolution with plaintiff IM and defendant MK, where the plaintiff and his lawyer were present. The defendant, notified by the court with a summons, did not appear at the session, without any legal reason, leaving the trial in absentia. At the end of the session, the court decided: Dissolution of the marriage between plaintiff IM and defendant MK", announced the Court of Tirana.
Meanwhile, Ilir Meta's lawyer also reacted, saying that the court has decided to dissolve the marriage between Meta and Kryemadhi.
"This is simply for one purpose, to dissolve the marriage. And the court, after we presented the reasons for the dissolution of the marriage, also administered the paperwork and made the decision to dissolve the marriage between the plaintiff Ilir Meta and the defendant Monika Kryemadhi," said Ilir Meta's lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj.
Their separation is now confirmed in legal form, after nearly 10 months since the public statement of the former President of the Republic, who was present in the courtroom today.
"Mrs. Kryemadhi is my ex-wife. And today I have also followed the legal path for this matter and I have also informed my son Besar Ilir Meta, who told me a while ago that when we have so many tensions and problems with each other, you can find a solution peacefully and I believe I have found a solution," he declared at the time.
Meta took the step towards separation, while Kryemadhi stated that he learned of his decision from a journalist. At least from what they have said so far, the reason for the breakup of the long marriage was the burning of the mandates of the LSI MPs at that time, in 2019.
Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi were married on October 29, 1998. That day they vowed to each other after 5 years of dating and only 4 months after becoming parents. Today they have 3 children, Bora, Besar, and Era Metaj.
The end of their marriage comes amid conditions of isolation for Meta, who has been arrested since October 2024.
