After the Greek pages, accounts linked to Russian propaganda on "X" have also launched attacks on tourism projects in Zvërnec and Sazan. The debate that has sparked protests in Albania has now also been used on international social networks, where strong accusations, extreme comparisons and historical claims about the island of Sazan and the Zvërnec area are circulating.
In one of the posts being shared on "X", an influencer claims that the island of Sazan will turn into an island similar to Jeffrey Epstein's, while accusing the Albanian government of handing over protected natural areas to Jared Kushner.
" You have to pay attention to Albania right now. What's happening there is that Prime Minister Edi Rama has sold the protected natural areas and the only island to Jared Kushner to make this giant resort. You can't invent these things. An island like Jeffrey Epstein's, they're doing this on the island of Sazan. The protected natural areas in the Zvërnec area, there's a very beautiful monastery for Orthodox Christians. The nature there, about 200 species live, 5 in danger. And they're going to destroy it by a few rich people ," the influencer says.
Similar accusations have been spread by other accounts, which link Sazan to conspiracy theories and the narrative that the island is being turned into a private property for the interests of the Trump family.
" In the end, Trump's son-in-law, Kushner, and his friend Nat Rothschild bought the Greek island of Sazan to turn it into a new Epstein island? " another post said.
In some cases, the propaganda has also taken on historical and nationalist overtones, presenting Sazan as a "Greek island" and citing claims about events in 1914.
" The island of Sazan is the Greek island of Sason, known since ancient times and inhabited by the Greeks since 1000 BC. In 1914, Albanian soldiers went to the island and massacred 100 Greek inhabitants, men, women and children. Let Kushner build hotels on the graves of the murdered Greeks ," one of the posts reads.
Earlier, the topic was also taken up by Greek websites, which presented Zvërnec as a Greek area and accused the Albanian government of taking the properties of the area's residents.
" Svrnica is an exceptionally beautiful Greek village in the Vlora region. The Albanian government, together with the Trump family, is seizing the homes of the Northern Epirotes in this area. The government, of course, is pretending not to see, reacting only lukewarmly ," the Greek pages write.
The inclusion of these sites in the debate over Zvërnec and Sazan comes at a time when protests in Albania have been ongoing for several days, while the government has defended the project as a tourist investment. On the other hand, protesting citizens are demanding the cancellation of the projects, raising concerns about the environment, property and the impact on protected areas.
