Two years after the murder of the "Eagle" police officer, Novruz Cenaliaj, family, colleagues and relatives gathered in Baltëz, Fier, to commemorate the late police officer, who lost his life in the line of duty.
The memorial ceremony took place near the village cemetery, a silent ceremony, but with echoes of the pain of the family, friends and colleagues of the slain policeman.
Off camera, his father, Asllan Cenalia, recalled the final moments and said that his son had intervened due to the high speed of the vehicle, a situation that, according to him, led to tragic consequences.
The family has also received news that Novruz Cenaliaj is expected to be honored with the title "Martyr of the Homeland", which will be officially awarded this weekend.
According to the procedures expected to be followed in the coming days, the remains of the soldier will be moved to the Martyrs' Cemetery in Tirana, where he will be finally laid to rest.
The serious incident occurred on May 13, 2024 in the center of the village of Baltëz. According to the investigation, Novruz Cenaliaj had a conflict with Azgan Mernica regarding the speed at which the latter was driving. After the argument, Mernica shot the officer, who died at the scene.
The murder of the "Eagles" officer shocked public opinion and was considered one of the most serious incidents against the State Police in recent years.
