Nicola Gratteri, the Italian prosecutor, said that the Albanian mafia has no advantage to invest the money in Albania.
According to his studies, the Albanian mafia invests in countries such as the Netherlands and Germany or northern Italy.
"I don't think that the Albanian mafia should invest in Albania. I think that the mafia, including the Albanian one, has an interest in investing in more developed and rich countries where they can hide the money. The investments of the Italian mafia such as hotels, restaurants are from Rome and above, in the north of Italy. That's why I think that these organizations and the Albanian ones invest, for example, in the Netherlands or Germany in rich countries with a lot of activity", said Gratteri.
He said that he knows the mafia quite well and that the Albanian one is differentiated because it is much more efficient and has a strong structure.
"Albanian mafia is a tough, violent and very efficient structure. Its severity makes it frightening in the international panorama. Albanians are very determined in the criminal plan" , he said in an interview for Euronews Albania.
