Elderly woman dies of asphyxia, neighbors say: She lived alone, was paralyzed

Neighbors of the 73-year-old woman who died as a result of asphyxiation after her apartment caught fire have spoken out about the tragic event.

They confessed that the old woman lived alone. According to neighbors, Fluturie Potka had a daughter and a son, and she had refused to live with them even though her legs had been paralyzed for several months.

"There was no help. She refused to go live with her son. She had been paralyzed in her legs for several months ," they told "News 24".

"On 15.01.2026, at around 09.10, in neighborhood no. 13, Korça, a fire broke out in the apartment of citizen FP, about 73 years old, who died as a result of asphyxiation.

Police and fire services are at the scene to help extinguish the fire.

"The investigation team is working to determine the cause of the fire and to fully document the circumstances of the event ," the police announced.
