The former German Ambassador to Tirana, Werner Daum, was found dead this morning in one of the hotels in the Golem area, where he was spending his vacation.
Daum, a well-known name in German diplomacy, had returned to Albania 35 years after leaving his post as ambassador to our country.
Initial suspicions are that Daum died as a result of a heart attack, after having been treated for a heart condition for a long time.
He was found in his hotel room, not answering his phone calls.
Reports indicate that at around 10:15 a.m. a person appeared in the hotel lobby, claiming that former Ambassador Daum had made an appointment. He asked at the reception desk and then the reception desk attempted to contact the former ambassador. When no one answered, a member of staff went to the former ambassador's room, where he was found dead.
Suspicions are that Daum died several hours before being found by hotel staff.
