Officially, the TikTok platform no longer works in Albania. This news was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama himself in the "Sy m' sy" column.
The head of government said that any other form that allows the use of this platform is dangerous, as user data can be used by evildoers, in this case hackers.
"The procedure for closing TikTok has been completed for smartphones. And the way to avoid blocking by using a VPN is very dangerous, as it is universally known that hackers make a name for themselves by stealing phone data through free VPNs," Rama said.
But, for IT experts, the government did not choose the best way to block a giant platform like TikTok.
Erion Demiri, IT expert: "The most normal method by which a platform can be shut down is by giving a large amount of addresses to various ISPs, which are tasked with blocking these addresses. At the moment, internet service providers and telephone companies are manually blocking these addresses."
According to Erion Demir, TikTok will be on Albanians' phones again without the need for a VPN.
"This is not the way that should have been chosen. This is the most difficult and at the same time the least efficient way, because large platforms like TikTok constantly change their addresses. If we achieve a result, they will change the address very quickly and it will turn into a game like cat and mouse."
As the head of government said, there are other ways to block TikTok. But, we have navigated TikTok. VPN is a set of protocols and techniques where a device, whether a phone or a computer, connects to a server outside Albania.
"We download a free VPN, where we can create an account using an email address and, after creating this, we will be asked to install the relevant application. We are given the opportunity to choose which country we want to appear to be from, in this case, Amsterdam. And normally, we no longer have these restrictions imposed on us by Albanian ISPs," said the expert.
And so, we're back on TikTok without changing our address and without paying anything. /Top Channel
